Happy Wednesday, friends!

I have been obsessed with podcasts for about the past year or so. I still love listening to music in the car, at work, or while cooking dinner…but podcasts have been such a fun thing to add to my runs (and walks, too!), especially the long ones. Today I’m sharing 5 of my favorite podcasts, and I hope you’ll enjoy them!

The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey

Jamie’s podcast has to be hands down, my all-time favorite, ever, ever, ever. I’ve been listening since the beginning and have been hooked since day one! On the Happy Hour, she sits down with girlfriends from all over the world, doing all sorts of different things – and just chats with them about the big things in life, the little things in life, and everything in between. It really is just like eavesdropping on someone’s happy hour. The episodes are always encouraging, upbeat, positive, and eye-opening. There are so many women on the show who are at a different life stage than I am or who have experienced things beyond my wildest dreams (like living in Africa, adopting as a single mom, starring on television, marrying a football player)…so it’s really fun to hear about other people’s experiences. This podcast really makes runs fly by because it just feels like hanging out with girlfriends for an hour. Where did those miles go?

Chris Brown’s True Stewardship

If you know me and my husband at all – you know Chris Brown is our favorite. We’ve been listening for over a year and met Chris at a conference in LA a few months ago. His radio show helped us to get out (and stay out!) of debt and overall, he’s changed the entire way that I think about stewardship and view money. This podcast has been a tremendous blessing to our little family and the 30 minute episodes are great doses encouragement for shorter runs. Bonus: he’s a marathoner, too! 🙂

Trevor and Angie are seasoned marathoners and encouraging experts. Their advice, humor, and positivity really helped me on my first cycle of marathon training. I’ve gotten a few friends hooked on Marathon Training Academy already and I know you’ll love them too.

I’m a new listener, but a big fan! Matt and Doug have shared wonderful advice, tips, and tricks that have helped me on my journey to transitioning to a fully vegan and plant-based diet. Their episodes always make me laugh and are the perfect length for most runs!

That Sounds Fun with Annie F. Downs

Another new favorite – somehow, I always end up both giggling and sobbing during most of her episodes. Especially the one with Tim Shaw – whoosh. Pass the tissues. Her podcast enriches my day with faith-filled fun, and helps the miles fly by!

Weekend Recap: Hills, Treats, and Baseball

I’m squeezing in this weekend recap juuuuust in the nick of time. Good thing we live on the West Coast now – because back in our hometown, it’s already past midnight. 🙂 I hope that you had a terrific Monday! It was tough adjusting back to work today after a jam-packed weekend.

It couldn’t have started out on a better note. On Friday, I had the day off! One of the huge benefits where I work is that we have every other Friday off, year round, no exceptions. It’s such a treat, and it’s one of the reasons why our office is such a happy place – everyone has an extra day for balance. 🙂

After sleeping in just a little bit, I ran two speedy miles and then took a Body Pump class. I’ve really been slacking on the strength training lately, so I was super super sore for the rest of the weekend and felt like a total weakling – it was a fantastic workout! I hope to get stronger and incorporate 2-3 regular Body Pump classes into my weekly routine.

I spent the rest of Friday cleaning, playing with Chase at the dog park, and blogging! After such a hard and heavy week, I was determined to spread some happy news. If you missed it, you can check out five positive news stories that are guaranteed to make your heart smile here.

Friday night was one of the highlights of our weekend – Chad’s first softball game in San Diego! When we first started dating years ago, Chad was in a work softball league with some really amazing teammates and friends. I have such fond memories of hanging out on the bleachers, watching him light up at bat, and cheering him on over the years. It was great to be back at it with his new team, a sweet group of guys from our church.

On Saturday, we hunted for our new home (no luck yet!) and took a break with some beloved Rita’s Water Ice. If you know, you know. Gelati for Chad, mango ice for me.

After a challenging and exhausting morning of house shopping around town, I went for a quick 5-miler with hill repeats to shake off some of the frustration. It was so refreshing, just what my soul needed. Running always seems to bring perspective, clarity, and peace…and funny sidewalk chalk musings.

This hill in our neighborhood is brutiful. Painful, steep, and brutal – but totally worth it for the beautiful Pacific views.

After the run, I came home to a package on my doorstep – this adorable tank from my friend Chelsy (but you probably know her as Fit & Faithful 🙂 Lately, I’ve been struggling with finding joy in all circumstances – no matter what life brings – so this fun purchase was both to treat and encourage myself. I love it!

Sunday was a funday! After church, we met up with some of Chad’s coworkers to head to the Major League All-Star Weekend festivities. How lucky is Chad to have his favorite sport’s biggest weekend in our brand new home? The actual game isn’t until Tuesday, but Sunday featured the Futures All-Star Game and the Celebrity Softball Game. It was so much fun! The highlights of the day for me were watching Chad keep score like the true baseball nerd he is, and witnessing Drew Brees hit a home run! I loved wearing our matching Phillies t-shirts (gotta represent home!) that my Dad bought us at Spring Training.

Friday Five: Joy for the Weekend

Happy Friday, friends. And yes, despite all of the heaviness in our country and world – it is a happy Friday. I am sorrowful for all of the victims of the tragedies that shook our world this week, but I am full of joy and hope because I know that God is real, in control, and sovereign. I am full of joy because every day that I am here is a gift – and I refuse to waste that gift by living in fear and anxiety. I am full of joy because I know that what we suffer today is nothing compared to Heaven. I am full of joy because I know that God can and will work miracles and bring His perfect peace to our world.

Will you join me today in praying for peace and unity? Will you join me in choosing joy over fear?

The Best Week Ever Recap

Hi there, friends! It’s been a few weeks since I checked in here, but for good reason, I swear. My best friend/maid of honor/former roomie/high school and college bestie Jill was in town and stayed with us for a WHOLE WEEK! It was magical and felt like Christmas. Well, it felt like being roommates again…plus my husband also being our roomie. In short, it was the best week ever.

This was Jill’s first time in San Diego, let alone, California – so I really wanted to squeeze in all of the best things in a short amount of time. There is so much to see, do, and eat here that seven days just isn’t enough. But, we tried our best!
